Peter Schiefke

Peter Schiefke (born April 13, 1979) is a Canadian environmentalist and Liberal politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Vaudreuil—Soulanges in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election.〔(Liberal Peter Schiefke elected in Vaudreuil—Soulanges ), Global News, October 19, 2015.〕
Following the divorce of his parents, his mother moved out of Hudson, Quebec where his earliest memories are, in a search for work which meant frequent moves around the Montreal region during his youth and he would graduate from Rosemount High School. He has one brother. Schiefke was a member of the French-Canadian boy band Inmotion in the early 2000s. While a member, the group enjoyed some success on the Quebec pop charts, including a number-one hit "Sauve-Moi" described as "a gooey love ballad reminiscent of something 'N Sync or the Backstreet Boys." He has attributed his desire to enter politics to his perception of a decline in the Canadian social system.〔John Paul Tasker, (Meet the Class of 2015: Notable rookies headed to Parliament Hill ), CBC News, October 22, 2015.〕 Following the end of his musical career, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science at Concordia University, followed by a Master of Science in renewable resources at McGill University.〔(Peter Schiefke Biography ), Liberal.ca, retrieved October 27, 2015.〕
Schiefke spent four years in northern Uganda working on humanitarian relief ventures, an experience he claims made him more aware of the effects of climate change on poor communities. Upon returning to Canada, he co-founded Youth Action Canada, a not-for-profit organization aimed at getting young people more involved in fighting climate change. He later became involved with Al Gore's Climate Reality Project, serving as the national director of the Canadian division from 2009 until 2015. He remains a member of the organization's board.〔(Peter Schiefke Biography ), The Climate Reality Project, retrieved October 27, 2015.〕
